Defense Secretary Mattis Tells Pakistan More Effort Needed to Defeat Terrorists

After a recent visit to Pakistan, Voice of America reports that Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis came away “confident and optimistic.”

Mattis met with leaders including the Prime Minister, military and spy chiefs, and national security advisor.

In October, Mattis appeared to send a warning to Pakistan by stating that the U.S. would work with that nation “one more time” before taking steps to address its failure to take decisive action against militants on its soil.

In an official statement published after the bilateral talks, Mattis took notice of Pakistan’s past sacrifices in the war on terror, while also calling for increased efforts.
