For first time in 25 years, Navy recognizes Coast Guard crew for combat actions

At this site, we take pains to recognize the contributions of the U.S. Coast Guard, which due to its smaller size and lesser visibility is often inadvertently denied well-deserved recognition.

In theaters of combat, Coast Guard personnel can experience hazards identical to those faced by Navy sailors. This was the case for 12 Coast Guard members who were assigned to the Navy vessel USS Mason of the coast of Yemen in 2016. During that deployment, the ship was attacked several times by Houthi rebels. The Coast Guardsmen, all members of the Maritime Security Response Team in Chesapeake, Virginia, were awarded the Navy Combat Action Ribbon. Read more at source…
