Former Marine drill instructor sentenced to 10 years for abuse of recruits

An eight member panel found Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Joseph Felix (a former drill instructor at Parris Island) guilty of having punched, kicked, and choked three of his trainees. One of the trainees, Raheel Siddiqui, committed suicide during training though Felix was not found specifically culpable for his death.

Besides the episodes of physical abuse, the prosecution also recounted incidents in which Felix had demeaned recruits’ Muslim faith and tried to force them to renounce it. He was also said to have been drunk on duty in the presence of recruits on some occasions. Read more at source…
